Let God Be God

by Kimberly on December 30, 2009

When we talk about praying for healing, at some point, someone will remind us that the most important healing is salvation.  There’s no doubt about that, but I wonder if this has become the safe way of saying, “I don’t think God is going to physically heal this person, so let’s protect ourselves from disappointment and pray for something we can’t clearly judge.  Let’s let God off the hook and not really ask Him to do this.”

It’s obvious if someone has been physically healed or not – there’s no question about it.  We can see the lame walk.  We know if the person who’s always been blind can suddenly see.  The doctors can show us through technology that the tumor is gone.  We don’t always know if someone is saved.  Sadly, a person can believe and accept Jesus as their Savior but lead a fruitless life.  On the other hand, there are wonderfully kind Christ like atheists.

Why do we do this?  What are we afraid of?  Why do we give God this way out?  “It’s OK, God, if you don’t do this healing.  I don’t expect you to.”  Don’t we know that He doesn’t need or want a way out?  He’s a big God and can handle anything – even our disappointments.  What He does want is for us to let Him out of the box we try to shove Him into.  Not for His sake, but for ours.  We want to keep Him safe and predictable, but those are the last words that can describe Him.  Yes, He is our tower and strong refuge, but look at what He does!  “The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep.  And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.  Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light.”  (Gen. 1: 2-3) Look at what He asks His people to do!  To Moses, He says, “Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.” (Ex. 3:10)  Now, don’t let yourself say, “But that was Moses!  I’m no Moses!”  The only thing that made Moses special was that He was obedient to the Lord.  He didn’t jump up and run to the Pharaoh.  He asked God lots of questions, but in the end did what his Lord commanded.

Our God is power!  He is God of the impossible.  If Moses would have run to the Pharaoh on his own accord, what would have happened?  We know he would have failed.  The children of Israel would still be in Egypt!  Moses’ fear was a good thing – it kept him dependent on the Almighty.

Do you know something else?  Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”  Wow, that makes it clear, doesn’t it?  He doesn’t change.  When He healed Lazarus and blind Bartimaeus He was showing us who His was then and who He is now.  He will always be Yahweh Rapha, the Lord who Heals.  Isn’t that exciting?!

Is it scary to trust God to heal?  Absolutely, but isn’t dealing with sickness and disease scary?  Who do you want to surrender yourself and your child to, God or the disease?

Take that leap of faith.  Let God be God!  Let His power and His promises be unleashed in your life.  How do you do that?  By getting to know Him – spend time with God.  You will have to let Him search your heart and your beliefs, removing the fears, false teachings, and past hurts that keep you from trusting Him.  Let Him find out why you’re afraid to truly and passionately seek His healing.  Then, let Him set you free to soar with the eagles and hope for what only our Great God can give.

If that sounds like a lot to try to do on your own, or if you just want to deepen your faith, I invite you to take  “The Faith Challenge“.  It is a powerful way to focus your eyes on Him, The Giver of Life, while opening your heart to allow Him to bring you the healing you need to live a faith-filled life.

In His Love,

Kimberly
