Welcome! I’m so glad you are here!
My name is Kimberly Ehlers. My husband, Randy, and I have a wonderful son, Seth, who was born with Pulmonary Atresia. Seth had multiple heart defects and needed to have open heart surgery when he was 4 days old. That surgery saved his life, but only took care of one defect. The last 11 years have been years of waiting, praying, and miracles. You can read more about my family and our story here.
My prayer is that this website will support, encourage, and even challenge parents who have children with serious health issues.
Support and encouragement are easy to understand, right? But what do I mean by challenge?
Well, the challenge is really the key. It’s the key to support and encouragement that truly last. Those things only come from a deep relationship with our Father. We have to challenge ourselves to grow our faith by growing in our relationship with Him. We have to challenge ourselves to not stay in the muck of our child’s illness. Our fear of the future, the constant worry over the here and now, and the anger over so many things – that’s just part of the muck!
If we do stay there, the enemy wins. We’re so busy just trying to survive the day, that we can’t live for Christ. We can serve our families, but we can’t love him with all that we are and love others (Luke 10:27).
The challenge is also to surrender your child to God instead of the medical community or the illness. In our desire for our children to be well, it’s so easy to grab on to a doctor or a medicine and put our hope in them. Instead, let’s surrender our children to the Creator who loves them so much He gave His son to die for them. Let’s give them to the Shepherd who gives His flock the very best. Place them in the hands of the One who heals.
We can’t forget that part of our Savior. He is the One who heals. We have to hold on to the truth that He is the same today, as He was yesterday and will be tomorrow (see Hebrews 13:8).
So, what do you think, are you ready to join this challenge? Are you ready to know your God and trust in Him completely?
