My Family’s Story

Yellowstone Vacation 2008, mine 061My family, the three of us, we’ve been through a lot together.   I thank God every day for giving me this family.  This little family who’s faced so many storms together and come out of them so bonded by love and trial.

I call my husband, Randy, my Caleb.  From the beginning of his Christian life (which began 3 days after our son’s birth), he knew we would win this battle.  It didn’t matter how impossible it looked in the eyes of man.  God told him his son would be OK the day he was saved.  He has trusted and waited on that promise faithfully, ready for the victory he knew God would give us.

As for me, sad to say, I’m much more like the rest of the Israelites.  I was raised in the church, but truly came to know God a couple of years before our son, Seth’s birth.  God knew I would need to be well grounded in Him.  He prepared me well, but still I fretted, worried, and doubted.  I was impatient and demanding, wanting my son to be healed NOW.  I all too quickly “forgot” His good gifts.

Our son.  Our beautiful son, Seth, was born with multiple heart defects.  They called it pulmonary atresia, though that didn’t quite fit.  Seth had open heart surgery when he was 4 days old to place a patch in his pulmonary valve, keeping it open all the time.  A plan was made for two more surgeries to be performed before he was 18 months old.  These surgeries would “rewire” his blood flow and leave him with half of his heart functioning.

Our son’s life was to be that of sickness.  A life of not being able to do the things children love to do.  Who can run and play with half of a heart?  Man decided that his future was bleak.

God has decided differently.  Seth is 11 now.  His heart is whole and functions beautifully.  He can run and play all he wants.  His heart does not stop him, though his muscles might!

Over these 11 years, we have been blessed to see the hand of God reach down and heal some defects.  We have also watched as He healed through doctors.  It has been a long, hard, painful, glorious, and blessed 11 years.  Someday, I will share the whole story with you – that is a book in the making.  It’s a beautiful story of a little boy’s complicated heart and our Father’s mighty, loving heart for His children.

The prayer of my family is that God will be glorified through our lives.  We have realized the truth that we can’t praise Him enough.  He is the one who has bonded our family together.  He is the one who carried us through the storms.  He is the one who brought us all healing.

That is why my books are being written, my Yahoo group “Parents Heart to Heart” was formed, and this website was created – to give Him all the praise we can, knowing it’s only a sliver of what He deserves.

In His Love,

Kimberly

Over all these years, as the Lord healed my son, He also brought me healing.   He healed my fears, my guilt, my doubts, and has shown me who He really is – a powerful Father who loves His children so deeply He will move mountains for them.
