It’s Good Friday, and my thoughts keep going back to the cross. I’m thinking about just what was nailed to the cross on that day. Sound strange? There’s a continuous whisper in my soul that there was so much more than what my mind can comprehend.
As He’s so cruelly fixed on that cross again in my mind, I see the punishment for my sin being carried out once and for all.
But there’s more, isn’t there? Maybe it’s my mother’s heart that hates the wickedness of sickness and wants it punished. Or, maybe, it’s His Spirit whispering that every drop of His precious blood was shed in an epic decisive battle against evil in its entirety – not “only” sin. Listen to what Jesus tells us, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly,” (John 10:10, New American Standard Bible). This battle is so big, He is our only hope.
Every drop of His blood defeated each and every horrendous sin. Every time we turn away from Him or put anything before Him has been forgiven. Every time I hurt one of His beloved children has already been paid in full for. But, there’s more, and to know how much more, we have to go back to Eden.
Something else happened in that garden long ago when Adam and Eve first sinned. Evil had been there all along, but when they entered into agreement with sin its power grew and spread. It’s no longer housed in the body of one snake. Two bites of an apple unleashed Hell on earth. This is how Paul describes it in Ephesians 6:11-12, “Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places,”(New American Standard Bible). Sickness, disease, defects are all part of the thief’s plan to rob us. He wants to rob us of joy, life, faith, and, most of all, a relationship with our Father.
On that cross, covered by our Savior’s blood, we also find every sickness and disorder. Every aspect of evil was conquered that day, on that cross. Our sins and each plan to rob us can not defeat us. Yes, we know they can torment and hurt us, but they can never win the ultimate battle. They can not take us or our child from our Father.
Let’s really grasp what that means. Being with our Father is more than a nice thought of a child sitting on their daddy’s lap. Our Father is the Creator and Maker of all things. He rules over everything, and He loves us passionately! So much so, He sent His son to the cross to give us ABUNDENT life. In the end, evil acts are all in vain and are the tantrums of a sore loser.
So, what do I see when I look at the cross? I see my Savior, my sins, and I see the evil that hurt this family the most. I see heart defects nailed to the cross. They no longer have the last say. They are not in control.
Sweet parent, what do you see?
This Sunday, may you celebrate all that our Savior’s resurrection means – forgiveness, eternal life, and victory.
In His Love,
Kimberly
